India’s women’s trap team won silver at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on September 29. Neeru Dhanda, Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat took India’s first medal of the day, finishing behind China and ahead of bronze medallist Kuwait.
Published qualification results listed Neeru on 118 hits out of 125, Aashima on 106 and Manisha on 104. Their scores added to 328 for the team competition. The medal was a completed team result rather than a projection from events that were still in progress.
Neeru’s 118 also put her joint first in individual qualification with Qatar’s Bassil Ray. She then won the individual final, becoming the first Indian woman to take an Asian Games gold in trap. It was India’s first individual Asian Games trap title since Randhir Singh won the men’s event in Bangkok in 1978.
The individual gold was India’s fifth title of the Games and lifted the country’s running medal total to 47—five gold, 21 silver and 21 bronze—at the reporting cutoff. That total remains provisional because the Games and other September 29 competitions were continuing.
