The All India Football Federation decided on October 4 to hold its general elections on December 20, 2026. The resolution was passed at a special general body meeting in Kolkata, according to the federation’s official release. IANS and separate reports by Anandabazar and Hindustan Times confirmed the decision.
Former Haryana State Election Commissioner Rajeev Sharma has been appointed electoral officer to oversee the process. The meeting included members of the AIFF executive committee, representatives of its member associations, and officials from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation.
The general body also extended the current executive committee’s tenure until December 30, 2026, or until the newly elected committee assumes office, whichever happens earlier. The extension is therefore a temporary arrangement with an express end point; it does not renew the present leadership for a further full term.
The election date and the committee-extension deadline are separate. Voting is scheduled for December 20, while December 30 is the latest date specified for the current committee’s continuation. The federation’s October 4 release did not set out nomination deadlines, a final candidate list or detailed polling procedures. The announcement establishes the timetable and the officer responsible for conducting the process, rather than an election result.
