Mohali police said on October 4 that teams had carried out a cordon-and-search operation in sensitive areas of the district, checking houses, people and vehicles. The Times of India subsequently reported that seven cases had been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, seven people arrested and 20 grams of heroin recovered in the City-2 area.
The newspaper said teams searched locations in Kharar, Derabassi, Zirakpur and Mohali under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma. The locations included Deh Basti and Mubarakpur in Derabassi, Harmilap Nagar and Baltana in Zirakpur, Bangla Basti and Mundi Kharar in Kharar subdivision, and wards 34, 35 and 36 in City-2.
Motorcycles whose ownership or documents could not immediately be established were taken for verification, according to the report. It also described separate preventive detentions. Those detentions are distinct from the seven drug-case arrests, and holding a vehicle for checks does not establish that it was stolen.
Sharma told the newspaper that anti-drug operations were being intensified and similar checks would continue. The official October 4 posts confirmed the searches but gave no arrest or seizure totals; the figures come from the newspaper’s police account, published at 00:02 IST on October 5. The reports did not specify the exact time of the arrests. An arrest is not a finding of guilt.
