Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district arrested Deepak Tiwari during an operation overnight on October 3–4 in a murder investigation arising from an October 1 assault on RSS functionary Rameshwar Tiwari. Hindustan and Navbharat Times reported the new arrest on October 4. He suffered a gunshot injury to a leg and was taken for treatment.

Hindustan quoted Superintendent of Police Abhijit R. Shankar confirming the arrest and hospital admission. The two reports place the operation near Sutawar Mor in the Lar police-station area. Police allege that the suspect tried to evade officers and fired at them before officers shot him. That sequence is the police account; the reviewed reporting does not independently establish the circumstances or justification for the use of force.

The arrest is a new step in the existing case over an alleged fatal assault following a dispute about a speed breaker. Four police personnel had previously been suspended in connection with the handling of the matter. No original FIR, medical record or court order, or response from the arrested man or his lawyer, was available for review. Arrest does not establish guilt.
