A hillside collapsed behind a fuel station in Jorabat near the Assam–Meghalaya border on October 2, sending earth and rocks onto the premises. NDTV and India Today NE reported damage to two vehicles and said no injuries or deaths had been reported at the time of their updates.

India Today NE placed the incident at about 3 am in the Ten Mile area. Debris covered part of the forecourt. NDTV’s report, updated at 4.37 pm, said officials would examine the remaining hillside for the risk of further soil movement.

Residents told India Today NE they were concerned that construction-related earth-cutting had weakened the slope. That is an allegation about the cause, rather than an established technical finding. The reports reviewed included no completed engineering assessment.

Officials had not issued a final damage assessment in the accounts reviewed. Those reports did not establish when the affected premises could be restored.
