The National Investigation Agency arrested 13 people on September 29 following searches in Assam, West Bengal and Kerala, according to evening reports by the Times of India and AajTak. They put the arrests at eight in Assam, four in West Bengal and one in Kerala.
Investigators searched 16 locations and reported seizing phones and other digital devices. The NIA alleges that Imam Mahmuder Kafila, or IMK, operates as an offshoot of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh and that suspects helped expand its network through meetings, literature and online activity. These are investigative allegations, not findings of guilt.
The inquiry follows arrests by Assam Police in December 2025. Eleven earlier accused were chargesheeted in June 2026 before a special court in Guwahati. That earlier prosecution does not establish the allegations against the newly arrested people.
The reviewed reports did not include responses from the newly arrested people or their lawyers. Individual roles and supporting evidence remain matters for investigation and judicial scrutiny.
