Kerala launched water-taxi and kayak services under the Muziris Heritage Project on Sunday, October 4. Chief Minister V D Satheesan inaugurated the boats at Thattukadavu in North Paravur. The Hindu’s bureau report explicitly dates the service launch to Sunday, while PTI separately reports the launch at the jetty.
Tourism Minister P C Vishnunadh said previously suspended boating services had been revived under the government’s 100-day programme. The fresh development is the restart of those services, following earlier plans to revive water-based access to the region’s heritage sites.
Satheesan said the government plans to extend the services to Ezhikkara, Kottappuram and Azhikode, and connect more areas including Kodungallur, Kaippamangalam and Vypeen. He also outlined plans for museums, water sports, restaurants and tourism accommodation. These are proposed extensions and facilities; the launch does not establish that the entire wider network is operating.
The reviewed launch reports do not provide a complete timetable, fare list or verified start dates for the additional routes. Travellers will need to confirm those details with the operator. Claims of future jobs and business growth remain government objectives rather than measured results.
