Two men accused of rape and assault in Begusarai were sent to 14 days of judicial custody on September 30, Prabhat Khabar reported. Rohit Sahni and Vikram Sahni appeared before acting Chief Judicial Magistrate Vivek Chandra Verma, according to its local court report. The remand order was not independently available for review.
The case concerns a complaint of sexual violence and physical assault at a hotel on September 27, followed by circulation of a recording. Police registered a case under criminal-law and information-technology provisions and formed a special investigation team. The complainant’s identity and details that could identify her are being withheld.
Police said Rohit was arrested in Samastipur after the other accused had been held. Investigators secured the hotel room and began examining CCTV, booking records, forensic material and a seized phone, according to reports of the police investigation. The September 30 court appearance is the latest development in that investigation; neither man has been convicted in the case.
Police also said Rohit injured his leg while trying to escape during transport. That account has not been independently verified. No response from either accused or their lawyers was available in the reports reviewed. The allegations and the material collected by investigators remain to be tested in court.
