Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on September 30 that he had asked the Chief Electoral Officer for constituency-wise information on Form-7 objections seeking deletion of voters. IANS, Maktoob and Kannada outlet Navasamaja reported his public statement. He sought details of bulk objections and applications missing prescribed reasons or required particulars.
Shivakumar expressed concern that mass or pre-printed objections could target minorities, Dalits, tribal communities and other backward communities. This is the chief minister’s stated concern, not a verified finding of discriminatory deletion. An objection is an application to be examined; it is not itself proof that a voter’s name has been removed.
He also called for FIRs where criminal conduct is found. The reviewed material did not confirm that a new FIR had been registered or that the requested dataset had been supplied. No fresh response from the electoral authorities to this specific request was available. The new development is the request for scrutiny, rather than a concluded investigation.
