Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district arrested a 45-year-old man on October 4 in connection with his 70-year-old mother’s killing. Dainik Jagran and The Times of India reported that Balwan was arrested beneath Chirhauli bridge at about 8:15 a.m. Sunday. His mother’s body had been found on September 26.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Bharti told Jagran that the accused had been produced before a court and sent to Etawah jail. Police registered the murder case following a complaint by the woman’s younger son, naming Balwan and an unidentified person, according to the reports.
Police said a forensic team collected evidence after the body was discovered and a post-mortem examination was conducted. Investigators allege that a demand for money for liquor led to a confrontation and fatal assault; they also cited a family land dispute. These alleged motives and the accused’s responsibility remain to be established in court.
TV9 Hindi’s separate local report also dated the arrest to October 4 and said further legal action was underway. The underlying FIR and court order were not available for review. The reports carried no response from Balwan or his lawyer.
