Chandauli police arrested five people on September 30 in an investigation into an alleged call centre targeting Japanese citizens, particularly older people. The Times of India's October 1 report and The420's September 30 account describe the operation in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh.

Police alleged that callers offered computer assistance, obtained remote access to devices and used it for unauthorised financial transactions. The420 reported that investigators seized computers and phones for forensic examination. These allegations have not been established in a trial.

Additional superintendent of police Vikram Dahiya said about ₹9 lakh in two bank accounts had been frozen, according to The Times of India. That is the reported frozen balance, not a verified measure of total victim losses. Police said they were still searching for the alleged main operator.

The reviewed reports did not include the arrested people's response or a court ruling on their responsibility. The investigation still needs to establish individual roles and the money trail.
