Lucknow police arrested a dental-college plumber on Sunday, October 4, in an investigation into a teenager’s death after an alleged beating, Amar Ujala reported, citing Inspector Sunil Singh. The officer identified the arrested man as Subhash Chandra and said three other workers’ roles remained under investigation.

The case concerns events on September 30. Police allege that college workers held and assaulted the teenager after suspecting him of taking an air-conditioner pipe. His mother subsequently lodged a complaint, and police registered a culpable-homicide case. The suspicion of theft is part of the police account, not an established finding against the child.

In an earlier, separate report, Hindustan quoted Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh on the investigation and described the family’s allegation that the teenager was beaten while being held. Police told that newspaper that he was also taken to a police outpost, questioned and told to leave. He was later found unconscious and declared dead at hospital, according to that report.

Singh told Amar Ujala that CCTV footage and other evidence formed the basis for the new arrest. The reviewed reports carried no response from the arrested worker or his lawyer, and the underlying footage, post-mortem report and remand order were not available for review. Responsibility for the death remains to be determined.
