A woman missing since September 28 was found dead beside a railway track in Kanpur on Friday, October 2, police said. Her family alleged that officers initially refused to register their missing-person complaint.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Deependra Nath Chaudhary said the allegations of negligence would be examined. Police sent the body for a post-mortem examination and collected forensic evidence.

The cause and circumstances of death remain unconfirmed.
