Delhi has opened a pollution command centre at Shastri Park. An October 1 account on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s official website describes round-the-clock monitoring of construction activity and field enforcement through the Delhi Pollution Control Committee facility.

PTI’s October 1 report, carried by The Patriot, quotes Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa as saying 707 sites were under watch. The system covers construction sites larger than 500 square metres and is intended to identify open burning. It will compare current and past air-quality readings to guide responses such as sweeping and water sprinkling.

The chief minister’s account says GPS tracks mechanical sweepers and that inspectors’ body-camera feeds will reach the centre. It also says 78 sub-division enforcement teams will work through it during winter. These are government descriptions of the monitoring arrangements, rather than independently measured results.

The launch brings separate streams of information into one operational setting. Whether alerts lead to inspections, corrective action and cleaner air remains to be established; installation of cameras alone does not demonstrate a reduction in pollution.
