Mohammad Ayub, also reported as Ayyub Mev, died on 16 September 2016 after being assaulted in Ahmedabad three days earlier. The incident followed a chase and vehicle collision on the SG Highway. Police said his car carried cattle; his family disputed aspects of the account and alleged an attack by cow vigilantes.
Police arrested three men on 21 September in connection with his death. A chargesheet subsequently described an assault with weapons after the collision. In January 2017, the family sought further investigation, questioning why the alleged organised cow-vigilante connection had not been adequately addressed.
The death, arrests and family’s demand are separate parts of this historical record. The allegation of a vigilante network is attributed rather than treated as a final finding.
