Hathras police announced three arrests on September 30 in the investigation into the killing of a man and his wife in Sadabad. Police said the man's second wife was among those held and alleged that the deaths formed part of a plan to obtain property. These are the investigators' allegations, not findings from a completed trial.
Times Now Navbharat and Dynamite News reported that officers detained two suspects on the Agra–Hathras road on Wednesday and subsequently arrested the woman. The case concerns deaths inside a home during the night of September 26–27, followed by allegations that valuables were taken. Police registered the murder case after a relative complained.
The September 30 accounts describe several teams examining footage from about 350 CCTV cameras. Police said an image from the footage helped identify a suspect and led investigators to examine his movements and contacts. They reported recovering valuables and were continuing to investigate the roles of other people.
The alleged property motive and the accounts of planning still require proof in court. The reports reviewed did not include a response from the arrested people's lawyers or a verified remand order. The new development is Wednesday's arrests; the fatal attack occurred several days earlier.
